Super Complaint about a Private Dentist

The Super-Complaint system is new, and private dentistry is the first subject to be sent to the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) under this fast track approach. Under this system a number of bodies are allowed to refer complaints to the OFT which focus on areas where there is suspicion that market structures or practices work against the interests of consumers.

The Consumer's Association has asked the OFT to look at its concerns about the market for private dental treatment, which is worth about £1 billion a year. The OFT will fast-track this super-complaint and announce within 90 days, that is before the end of January, what action, if any, it will take and whether it will undertake a full formal study into the market.
